In a powerful story of compassion transcending corporate boundaries, a BTech student from Lucknow has received a new lease of life after a successful kidney transplant, made possible through the support of Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani.

Family’s plea finds unexpected support

Anoop Mishra, a young engineering student, was diagnosed with end-stage chronic kidney disease in December 2024. Doctors informed the family that a kidney transplant was the only life-saving option. However, the cost of the procedure was far beyond the family’s means.

His father, Shree Krishna Bhagwaan Mishra, recalled the emotional turmoil of that period. “When we were told that a kidney transplant was the only way to save Anoop, we were devastated. We had no way to afford it,” he said.

With options running out, social workers and journalists shared Anoop’s story on social media, appealing for urgent help.

Adani Foundation steps in

The family never expected their appeal to reach Gautam Adani. “When we were informed that he had taken cognisance of Anoop’s condition, it felt like a miracle,” Mishra said.

Following this, the Adani Foundation intervened and ensured comprehensive medical assistance, covering treatment costs and related care. “All possible medical support was arranged. Because of this help, my son received the best treatment without any financial burden,” Mishra added.

Treatment delays and a mother’s sacrifice

The journey to recovery was not immediate. Medical complications delayed the transplant, and doctors at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research advised patience and close monitoring. Under continuous supervision, Anoop’s condition stabilised over time.

The most emotional turning point came when Anoop’s mother, Gyanmati, decided to donate her kidney. “As parents, we wanted only one thing — that our son should live,” his father said.

The transplant was successfully performed earlier this week.

Gratitude and hope

Expressing deep gratitude, Mishra said, “The Adani Group may be a giant in business, but Gautam Adani’s humanity is even greater. For families like ours, he is truly a lifesaver.”

The case stands as a reminder of how timely philanthropy, combined with medical expertise and parental courage, can change the course of a young life.
