In a tragic turn of events, a nursing mother from Kodabagi, Belagavi, has died after complications following childbirth at BIMS Hospital. The victim, identified as Vaishali, hailing from Goudawada village in Hukkeri taluk, had been admitted to the hospital for a cesarean delivery. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl, but soon after, developed severe chest pain the following morning. Despite being transferred to the ICU, Vaishali succumbed to her condition.
Her husband, Eranna, has accused the hospital staff of negligence, claiming that a lack of timely medical intervention contributed to her maternal death. The incident has sparked unrest at the hospital, prompting the APMC police to conduct an investigation into the matter.
Vaishali’s death marks the 29th maternal fatality in Belagavi in the last six months, drawing attention to the alarming rate of maternal deaths in the district. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao stated that many of these deaths are due to multi-organ failure and kidney complications, which are major causes of maternal mortality in the state.
Authorities are now calling for a thorough review of maternal healthcare practices in the region to prevent further fatalities.
