The Karnataka government has approved 12 additional Namma Clinics in Dharwad district to boost emergency medical support for locals. At present, the district hosts nine operational clinics—two each in Dharwad and Hubballi, and one in Kalaghatagi, Navalgund, Kundgol, Alnavar, and Annigeri.
Soon, seven more clinics will come up in Hubballi and two in Dharwad. According to District Health Officer Dr. S.M. Honakeri, the upcoming facilities in Dharwad will be set up in Navalur and Malapur. In Hubballi, they are planned at Tarihal, Gopanakoppa, Mantur Road, Mehboobnagar, New Medara Oni, Vaddara Oni, and Aralikkatti Oni.
A dedicated building worth ₹4.5 crore has already been constructed at New Medara Oni under the Smart City initiative. Depending on government funding, the remaining clinics will either function from newly built spaces or rented premises.
Presently, one primary health center serves every 50,000 people in Hubballi-Dharwad. Namma Clinics aim to supplement these by being located in areas with a population above 30,000 in rural zones and over 60,000 in urban ones.
Launched in 2022 during the BJP tenure, these clinics cater primarily to slum dwellers, daily laborers, and economically weaker communities. Each center will offer 12 types of services, including maternal care, immunizations, chronic disease management, and minor illness treatment. Staff will include a doctor, nurse, lab technician, and support worker.
Additionally, free diagnostic tests, emergency care, elderly support, referrals, and wellness programs will be available six days a week.
