Healthy eating is fast becoming a daily habit for Indian consumers, with Swiggy revealing that one in every nine food orders placed on its platform in January 2026 came from its EatRight category.
EatRight sees strong nationwide adoption
According to Swiggy’s internal data, EatRight—launched earlier this month as an umbrella category—now features over 1.8 lakh restaurants and more than 20 lakh items across 150-plus dish families. These include everyday favourites such as biryanis, rolls, salads, kebabs, sandwiches, soups and North Indian meals, redesigned to meet healthier benchmarks.
The category brings together High Protein, Low Calorie and No Added Sugar options under a single, intuitive experience. High-protein dishes are curated using a protein-to-calorie ratio of at least 10 per cent, low-calorie meals are capped below 500 kcal, while no-added-sugar items rely on natural or low-calorie sweeteners.
Protein-forward meals drive growth
Consumer trends show a clear preference for nutrition-led choices without compromising taste. High-protein meals offering 45 grams or more protein are growing nearly 3.5 times faster than the overall EatRight category. The 400–500 calorie range has emerged as the most popular, reflecting a conscious shift towards lighter yet satisfying meals.
Leading food brands have responded by upgrading menus—introducing multigrain rotis, protein-rich rice bowls, portion-controlled biryanis and sugar-free beverages—expanding access to healthier options across cuisines.
Beyond metros, into everyday routines
While metros such as Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi NCR continue to lead adoption, strong momentum is also visible in cities like Mysuru, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar and Vadodara. EatRight orders peak on Wednesdays and Fridays, indicating that mindful eating is being woven into regular workday routines.
Commenting on the shift, Deepak Maloo, Vice President at Swiggy, said consumers today seek taste, nutrition and convenience together—not as trade-offs. With initiatives like EatRight Streaks rewarding consistent healthy ordering, Swiggy aims to make conscious eating a natural part of everyday food choices.
