Mandya district health authorities are set to launch Gramagalali Hrudaya Spandana, a pioneering program aimed at tackling the surge in heart attack cases. This initiative will bring portable ECG machines directly to villagers, eliminating the need for long-distance travel for heart check-ups.

With rising cardiac cases, the program focuses on early detection and timely treatment, particularly in rural areas. It introduces compact, rechargeable, finger-based ECG devices, roughly the size of a briefcase, making heart screenings more accessible. Each taluk in the district will receive these machines, ensuring one device per 5,000 people.

Due to space constraints, traditional ECG machines cannot be placed everywhere. Hence, authorities opted for these portable alternatives, deployable at primary health centres (PHCs) and sub-centres. Mandya’s District Health Officer, Dr. K. Mohan, emphasized that while PHCs already have ECG facilities, sub-centres do not. This initiative will bridge the gap, allowing patients with heart-related symptoms to undergo immediate ECGs at their nearest centre.

If abnormalities are detected, healthcare staff will consult specialists, provide initial medication, and refer critical cases to hospitals. This doorstep healthcare initiative is expected to save lives by ensuring quick and effective diagnosis.
