Chikkodi: The rising number of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in Maharashtra has raised concerns, with two individuals from Belagavi reportedly succumbing to the disease.
The deceased have been identified as Balagouda Patil from Donewadi village, Nipani taluk, and a 14-year-old boy from Hukkeri taluk. The boy is said to have passed away four days ago, though Karnataka health authorities have yet to confirm these deaths.
The outbreak has particularly affected Sangli and Kolhapur districts, which border Belagavi. Maharashtra has recorded 31 GBS cases and five deaths so far, with more than 10 patients currently in ICUs. Sangli has reported 16 cases and two deaths, while Kolhapur has recorded 21 cases and three deaths.
Health experts are closely monitoring the situation, as GBS—a rare but serious neurological disorder—can lead to paralysis and life-threatening complications. Authorities urge vigilance and early medical intervention to curb the spread.
