
Karnataka Reports Second Covid Fatality of 2025, Cases Also Surface in Jharkhand
Karnataka has reported its second Covid-19 related death of 2025, following the passing of an elderly man from Belagavi district. The incident occurred late on Wednesday, and was confirmed by Harsh Gupta, Principal Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department.
According to officials, the 70-year-old deceased was a resident of Benakanahalli village. He had tested positive for the virus earlier in the day and was undergoing treatment at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences District Hospital. Already battling age-related health issues, he was shifted to the dedicated Covid ward upon testing positive.
The state’s first Covid death this year took place on May 17, when an 84-year-old man with multiple comorbidities succumbed to the infection at a private hospital in Whitefield, Bengaluru. His diagnosis was confirmed posthumously.
As per the bulletin released by the Karnataka Health Department on May 28, there are currently 126 active Covid-19 cases in the state, including 40 new infections reported on the same day. Authorities have assured that all district and tertiary care hospitals are fully prepared to manage the rising caseload.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand has also witnessed a slight uptick in Covid cases. Ranchi Civil Surgeon Prabhat Kumar informed that two new infections were recorded in the last two days, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to three. One of the patients had recently traveled from Mumbai. Two individuals are under hospital care, while one remains in home isolation.
