A 59-year-old woman, Prasanna AV, who suffered a brain hemorrhage, has given a new lease of life to four individuals through organ donation.

Prasanna was admitted to Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute on March 7 with weakness and seizures. She was diagnosed with Diffuse SAH due to an aneurysmal bleed. Despite medical efforts, she was declared brain dead after an assessment by Dr Elvis Rodrigues, Dr Misri, and Dr Aditya Bharadwaj.

During this difficult time, transplant coordinator Vishwanatha Gowda and the medical team sensitively discussed organ donation with her family. Honoring her wishes, the family made the selfless decision to donate her kidneys and corneas, ensuring that her legacy lived on.

On Sunday, a meticulously coordinated organ retrieval was performed. One kidney was successfully transplanted at Indiana Hospital, while the other kidney and corneas were sent to Kasturba Hospital, Manipal for transplantation.

The retrieval and transplant procedures were expertly handled by a team of doctors, including Dr Pradeep KJ, Dr Shravan Shanbhag, Dr Mujeeb Rehaman, Dr Gururaj Thantri, Dr Seema Alva, Dr Gurunandan, and Dr Keshav Prasad.

This act of generosity has not only transformed lives but also highlighted the importance of organ donation in saving others.
