Bengaluru: Narayana Health achieved a milestone on Wednesday by conducting 11,786 free ECG screenings for women across more than 20 hospitals and health centres in India. The initiative was part of the launch of the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan (SNSPA), aimed at promoting preventive healthcare among women.
Sharp rise from last year
The record screenings marked a major leap from 2023, when Narayana Health managed 3,797 ECGs in a 24-hour drive. This year’s effort more than tripled the figure, reflecting growing awareness and the hospital group’s expanded outreach.
Focus on southern India
A large share of the screenings were conducted in southern states, including cities like Bengaluru, Mysuru, Shivamogga and Dharwad. Several smaller towns and districts with limited access to healthcare services were also covered, highlighting the campaign’s inclusive approach.
Leaders emphasise preventive care
Dr Devi Shetty, founder of Narayana Health, said the response showed thousands of women taking the first step towards safeguarding their heart health. He emphasised that preventive care must be the foundation of a healthier nation. Narayana Health CEO Dr Emmanuel Rupert added that the overwhelming participation reflects increasing awareness about the importance of early detection of cardiovascular issues.
Why it matters
Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death among women in India. However, experts note that symptoms are often ignored or misdiagnosed. Simple non-invasive procedures such as ECG tests can provide early warnings, helping reduce long-term health risks. The SNSPA initiative, by prioritising such screenings, aims to reduce preventable deaths through timely medical intervention.
Conclusion
Narayana Health’s record-setting effort underscores the importance of preventive medicine and awareness campaigns. By significantly increasing participation in its annual drive, the hospital group has demonstrated how targeted initiatives can encourage women to take charge of their health.
