Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed alarm over the deteriorating air quality in Delhi, describing the city as a “gas chamber” due to rising pollution levels. After returning to Delhi from Wayanad, where the air quality index (AQI) was a comfortable 35, she shared her shock at the stark contrast. “It was like entering a gas chamber. The thick smog is even more disturbing when viewed from the sky,” she posted on X.
In her statement, Priyanka highlighted the grave health risks the pollution poses to vulnerable groups such as children, elderly citizens, and those with respiratory problems. “Every year, Delhi’s pollution gets worse. We must unite and find a way to ensure cleaner air. This isn’t about political parties; it’s a matter of survival. Breathing in Delhi has become nearly impossible, especially for the kids and elders,” she added.
On Thursday, Delhi’s air remained shrouded in a dense layer of smog for the second consecutive day. The Central Pollution Control Board reported the city’s AQI at 428 at 9 AM, classifying it as “severe.” Just the previous day, Delhi’s air quality had been the worst in the country. An AQI level between 401-450 is considered “severe,” while anything above 450 is labeled “severe plus.”
