Udupi: Understanding how to prevent and treat life-threatening illnesses like heart disease and cancer is crucial, said Dr. Sushil Jathanna, director of CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital, Udupi.
He was speaking at the launch of a large-scale free health screening and women’s wellness camp at Lions Bhavan on February 21. The event was a collaborative effort by the Indian Red Cross Society’s state and Udupi district branches, Yenepoya Medical College, CSI Lombard Memorial Hospital, Lions Club Udupi and Udupi Midtown, and the Udupi Senior Citizens’ Association.
During the event, hearing aids were distributed to select underprivileged beneficiaries. Dr. Jathanna emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle, highlighting that one in four individuals suffers from high blood pressure, while five out of ten are affected by diabetes. Preventive care and timely medical intervention are essential, he stressed.
Dr. Vanitha, medical officer at Yenepoya Hospital, educated students on cancer progression and treatment. The event saw participation from several dignitaries, including Lions Club Udupi president Lion Louis Lobo, Udupi Senior Citizens’ Association president Nagraj Rao, and Indian Red Cross Karnataka State Branch member Lion V G Shetty.
Basrur Rajeev Shetty, president of the Indian Red Cross Society, Udupi, welcomed the guests, while secretary Gananath Ekkaru moderated the event and delivered the vote of thanks.
