District Health Data, April-June 2024: Recent data highlights a significant disparity in child delivery methods between government and private hospitals in the district. While government-run hospitals report predominantly normal deliveries, private hospitals show a much higher incidence of caesarean sections (C-sections). Of the 3,838 deliveries recorded between April and June 2024, 1,886 were C-sections, with the majority occurring in private facilities. This trend raises concerns about the increasing reliance on assisted births in private healthcare.

At the district’s 23 primary health centers (PHCs), all 107 deliveries during this period were normal, underscoring the cautious approach followed by these government-run facilities. Dr. Mohan, the District Health Officer, noted that PHCs handle deliveries only when all health parameters of the pregnant woman are normal. In cases where complications arise, patients are referred to taluk hospitals.

A health department officer attributed the high rate of C-sections in private hospitals to a mix of commercial pressures and changing family preferences. Many families now opt for C-sections to align with auspicious times or due to concerns about pain and baby health.
