Seed cycling has become a viral wellness habit, claiming to stabilize hormones, manage PCOS symptoms, improve fertility, ease acne, and regularize menstrual cycles. The technique involves eating specific seeds — flax, pumpkin, sesame, and sunflower — during distinct stages of your menstrual cycle.
During the first half (follicular phase), individuals consume a tablespoon of freshly ground flax and pumpkin seeds daily. In the second half (luteal phase), they switch to sesame and sunflower seeds until menstruation begins again.
The theory suggests these seeds influence hormone levels by naturally supporting estrogen and progesterone balance. But medical professionals say this belief lacks substantial clinical backing.
Dr. Anjali Kumar, a gynecologist, clarifies that while seeds are rich in beneficial nutrients like lignans and omega fatty acids, they do not function as miracle cures. She states that no credible medical literature confirms seed cycling as an effective solution for hormonal imbalances or irregular periods.
Instead, she recommends a comprehensive approach, including:
- Nutritious eating habits
- Physical activity
- Emotional well-being
- Timely medical consultation
Seed cycling may complement a healthy lifestyle, but expecting it to replace medical treatment is misleading. These nutrient-packed seeds are great for general wellness — but not a magic bullet for endocrine disorders.
