Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, representing Mandya in the Lok Sabha, has urged the district administration to intensify efforts to combat the rising incidence of female foeticide. Addressing officials during his first official meeting with the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA), Kumaraswamy highlighted Mandya’s troubling reputation as a hub for this illegal practice.

Kumaraswamy emphasized the need for a coordinated approach involving various departments and agencies to address the issue effectively. He directed the police to target those involved in female foeticide, with Deputy Commissioner Kumara outlining ongoing efforts to raise awareness and engage the community in curbing the practice. However, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi reported that the primary suspect in the case remains at large despite ongoing efforts to locate him.

During the meeting, Kumaraswamy opted to share a meal with officials, despite being invited to lunch in the DC’s chamber, and expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of Congress MLAs and MLCs from the meeting. He noted their absence but chose not to elaborate further.

In related news, Kumaraswamy criticized the state government for lapses at the Parapanna Agrahara jail, where actor Darshan reportedly received VIP treatment. He blamed Home Minister G Parameshwara for these deficiencies and criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for focusing on issues other than governance.

Kumaraswamy also addressed accusations against Mandya MLA Ganiga Ravikumar, who alleged that opposition parties offered significant sums to Congress MLAs to switch allegiances, questioning the credibility of these claims.
