Mumbai: Though India has the “Freedom of speech and expression” mentioned in the Article 19 of the Constitution, “reasonable restraints” are imposed on certain representations including certain facts, on the silver screen.

Earlier movies like “Udta Punjab” (2016), “Indu Sarkar” (2017) too had faced cuts and also bans on scenes. Here comes yet another movie stroking a controversy.

The Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut-produced movie “Thackeray”, which is ready to hit the screens on January 25, 2019, is being criticised for its derogatory comments on South Indians by the Kollywood actor Siddharth.

The movie which is based on Shiv Sena supremo Late Bala Saheb Thackeray’s life brings alive his fight for the language, employment and social fabric of Maharashtra as well as the country.

Siddharth is unhappy with the comments made on the South Indians in the movie trailer stating ‘Uthao lungi bajao pungi’ which means lift the lungi and play the ****. He has opined that this movie spreads ‘hate’.

He has also urged to stop glorifying such a person on the screen and using the movie as a propaganda tool.

The movie has also reached the doorsteps of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which has objected on three of the dialogues mainly on South Indians and Babri Masjid.

As a counter reaction, producer Sanjay Raut has gone ahead and firmly stated that no cuts will be done on the scenes or dialogues as it is not a ‘romantic’ film.

Raut believes that this movie will portray Balasaheb as a man with right directions as he was.
