Defying age norms, 35-year-old Aarti Irkal is currently writing her SSC exams at Vimalabai Garware School in Pune. The driving force behind her decision? Her two children—19-year-old Divyani and 17-year-old Harsh—who completed the same milestone earlier.

Years ago, financial hardships and an early marriage forced Aarti to abandon her studies in ninth grade. However, watching her children dedicate themselves to academics rekindled her passion for learning. Determined to complete what she once left unfinished, she took the leap, proving that education is not bound by age.

Initially, sitting in a room filled with students nearly half her age felt daunting. But with unwavering support from her family, she pushed past her doubts. Her children not only encouraged her but also assisted with subjects like Mathematics and Science. Meanwhile, her husband shouldered additional household duties, ensuring she had time to study.

Divyani, currently pursuing a BA in Psychology, takes immense pride in her mother’s perseverance. “She has always been our pillar of strength. Now, we stand beside her, just as she did for us.” Inspired by Aarti’s determination, some of their extended family members are now considering continuing their own education.

With her exams nearing completion, Aarti is already setting her sights on the future—she hopes to earn a degree and become a language teacher, proving that the pursuit of knowledge never has an expiration date.
