Of the many farmers that gathered at the Shambhu border for the Dilli Chalo protest, one was said to have even lost his life, breathing his last at 7.45 am, early on Friday morning.
The 65 year old farmer was said to have been resting in a trolley and was a kilometer away from the barrier site, with five other farmers. It was three in the morning when he complained of feeling unwell.
An ambulance nearby lost no time in taking the farmer to the nearby Rajpura hospital. As the farmer then began to feel breathless, he was put on oxygen assistance in the ambulance that was then transferring him to the Rajendra medical college hospital.
The ambulance reached the hospital at five in the morning, and the farmer breathed his last about three hours later. Patiala deputy commissioner Showkat Ahmed Parray later visited the site and stated that as per medical records, the reason for the victim’s death was a cardiac arrest.
