Seventy Indian students stranded in Iran amid regional tensions have safely returned to India via Armenia following a coordinated evacuation effort involving government authorities and student organisations.
Most of the students were medical trainees who had been facing travel disruptions and logistical challenges due to recent developments in the region.
Coordinated evacuation effort
Officials said the evacuation was carried out through close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and local authorities to ensure the students could leave the country safely.
The operation involved arranging transport, managing travel permissions and continuously monitoring the safety and well-being of the students during the journey.
Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, national vice president of the All India Medical Students Association, said the effort required extensive coordination.
“It was a challenging operation, but teamwork and government support made it possible,” he said.
Student groups played key role
Nasir Khuehami, national convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, said communication between students and officials was crucial during the evacuation process.
He emphasised that ensuring the safety of the students remained the top priority throughout the operation.
According to him, the MEA and student organisations worked together to provide guidance, support and regular updates to the students during the evacuation.
The successful return of the students has brought relief to their families and highlighted the importance of coordinated assistance during international travel disruptions.
