New Delhi: On Saturday, August 24, a delegation of Opposition leaders led by Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi was sent back from the Srinagar airport to New Delhi after they arrived in the city despite being asked by the district administration not to do so. Aaj Tak and other media channels had gone to the airport to cover the developments, however, they were stopped by the security personnel and asked to leave the premises.

In a video posted by Aaj Tak, reporter Mausami Singh can be seen accusing the security personnel of manhandling and attacking the media personnel.

“We were just covering the delegation. They (security personnel) suddenly took Rahul Gandhi outside and after that, they began to fight with the media personnel,” she can be heard speaking in Hindi.

She then added in English, “This is a disastrous situation where media personnel were actually pushed, shoved and beaten. I was attacked by five women personnel that didn’t know what’s happening…”

In another clip, Singh can be seen and heard asking the security personnel why they are laying their hands on the camera and the personnel. She also asks them to “allow the media to do their work”. She is even seen following a security guard and asking him why he attacked the media.

The clippings have now gone viral and have also been picked up by Pakistani news channels.

Aaj Tak and Mausami Singh have now come under fire from the public for airing the news clipping. The incident has caused the #ShameOnAajTak to trend on Twitter with the netizens mocking and criticising the journalist for her “overacting”.

“Congrats @mausamii2u! ur victim play propaganda is famous in Pakistan. Job well done. #ShameOnAajTak,(sic)” said one Twitter user.

Some Twitter users have also begun unfollowing and blocking Aaj Tak and Singh and calling on others to follow suit. Some others have also unsubscribed the news channel on YouTube and uninstalled their app.

As with every incident that occurs, some netizens have made memes out of Singh’s outburst.
