Six former chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh‘s sons are running for the state’s upcoming legislative assembly.
The son of former chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy is chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is running from the Pulivendula constituency.
From 1978 to 2009, Rajasekhar Reddy served as the representative for the YSR family six times, most recently in Pulivendula constituency. On September 2, 2009, he perished in a helicopter crash, not long after taking on the position of chief minister for the second time.
Nara Lokesh, son of three-time CM and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, will be contesting for a second time in the upcoming elections after his first attempt to win from Mangalagiri in 2019 ended in failure. This time around, Lokesh will be challenged by YSRCP’s M Lavanya.
Lokesh is also the grandson of former CM and Tollywood legend N T Rama Rao (NTR), who founded the TDP in 1982.
Tollywood actor and sitting Hindupur MLA N Balakrishna, who is the son of NTR, is contesting from the same constituency again.
Rama Rao and his older son N Harikrishna previously represented Hindupur, a stronghold of the NTR family.
Balakrishna, who emerged victorious from the Hindupur segment in both 2014 and 2019, is targeting a hat-trick.
The son of former chief minister N Bhaskar Rao, Janasena leader N Manohar is standing for the NDA, which is made up of the TDP, Janasena, and BJP, from the Tenali constituency.
K Surya Prakash Reddy, the son of another former chief minister, K Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, will try his luck on a TDP ticket from the Dhone segment, while N Ramkumar Reddy, the son of former chief minister N Janardhan Reddy, is running on a YSRCP ticket from Venkatagiri constituency.
