An unfortunate incident occurred in Hyderabad’s Raidurg area, resulting in the accidental death of an IT professional who fell into an open water sump inside a private hostel. According to reports from the Raidurgam police, 25-year-old Shaik Akmal Sufuyan, a resident of Shanmukh Men’s PG hostel in Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli, tragically lost his life in the mishap.
Sequence of Events
Shaik had stepped out for errands on Sunday morning and upon returning to the hostel, failed to notice the missing lid of the water sump. As he opened the gate and took a few steps, he slipped into the uncovered sump, resulting in his demise. The entire incident was captured by the hostel’s CCTV cameras.
Lapse in Attention
Despite the hostel owner, K Madhusudhan Reddy, being in close proximity with his family, he failed to notice Shaik’s fall as he was facing the other direction, as stated by a police official.
Response and Investigation
Upon hearing a thud sound, Madhusudhan inspected the scene but initially couldn’t discern what had occurred. However, upon noticing bananas on the floor, he became suspicious and checked the CCTV footage, discovering the tragic accident involving Shaik. Despite efforts to rescue him and transport him to the hospital, Shaik succumbed to his injuries.
Legal Action
The police have registered a criminal case against the hostel owner under Section 304 a (negligence causing death) of the IPC, holding him accountable for the unfortunate incident.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining safety measures and vigilance, especially in shared accommodations and residential premises.
