New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday, has pressed for the appointment of All India Congress President at the earliest, adding that he is no longer the AICC Chief.he party should decide on the new president quickly without further delay, I am nowhere in this process. I have already submitted my resignation and I am no longer the party president. The CWC should convene a meeting at the earliest and decide,” Gandhi told reporters in the parliament.
It may be recalled that Rahul Gandhi, who lost the Lok Sabha polls in Gandhi bastion Amethi and instead got elected to Parliament from Wayanad, stepped down from the position of the AICC Chief on May 25, following the LS poll debacle. However, his resignation was unanimously rejected by the CWC and top leaders from the party have urged him to continue. Surprisingly, the 49-year-old leader remains unfazed.
The Congress won 52 seats in the recent general elections, which is just eight more than what the party won in 2014 polls.
