Mangaluru: The fringe groups like Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) Banjrangdal and Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) staged a protest against cattle trafficking and cow slaughter and urged the government to take immediate measures to control such illegal practices in the district, on Wednesday, July 3.
VHP leader Jagadish Shenava said,” the activists of fringe group have been striving hard to prevent cow trafficking and cow slaughters over the last 20 years. We welcomed the move of Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil who has issued stern warning to as many as 104 people who are facing charges of cattle theft and cow slaughter.
He recalled the incident of celebration at Jokatte by cattle transporters, when the court ordered to hand over the rescued cattle to them. “The elated cattle transporters celebrated the decision and burst crackers to humiliated the cattle protectors. The video of the celebration has gone viral. We need to protect cattle, failing which next generation may have to visit zoos to see the cattle,” he said.
Justifying the move of their protest against cattle trafficking, Shenava said that the Constitution has given the right to stop illegal activities. He also clarified that the activists would not take laws into their hands as they always respect the law. “When we notice illegal cattle transportation, we alert the police. We as activists will never take law into our hands,” he said.
Shenava informed that if the cow is old, don’t send it to slaughterhouse. “ I am requesting people to send it to ‘Gow Shala’ and I assure that such cows would be treated in good manner till its last breath”, he added.
