Bikaner: In a shocking incident, an Indian Army jawan was fatally stabbed by a train attendant following an argument over a bedsheet on board the Bikaner–Jammu Tawi Sabarmati Express. The incident occurred late on Sunday night (November 2) inside an AC coach, leaving passengers horrified.
The accused, identified as Zubair Memon, has been arrested by the Bikaner Railway Police. Officials confirmed that an FIR has been registered and a detailed investigation is underway.
Dispute over bedsheet turns fatal
According to the preliminary investigation, the altercation began when the victim, Jignesh Chaudhary, requested a bedsheet from the train attendant. The request reportedly led to a verbal exchange that escalated into a heated argument.
Witnesses told police that Memon later followed Chaudhary to his coach and attacked him with a knife, stabbing him in the calf. The deep wound caused severe bleeding, and Chaudhary succumbed to his injuries before any medical assistance could reach him.
Passengers in the compartment raised an alarm, following which railway staff and police personnel intervened. The accused was detained on the spot and handed over to the Railway Police.
Victim identified as soldier posted in Jammu and Kashmir
Police said that Jignesh Chaudhary was serving in the Indian Army and was posted in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. He had boarded the train from Firozpur Cantt and was on his way home to Sabarmati, Gujarat, when the fatal incident occurred.
Officials stated that Chaudhary’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and his family has been informed. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV and surveillance footage from the train and station areas to verify the sequence of events.
Investigation underway
The Bikaner Railway Police confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for murder. Witness statements are being recorded, and the knife used in the attack has been recovered.
Senior officers are supervising the investigation to determine whether the attack was premeditated or a result of sudden provocation.
Earlier case of soldier’s killing this year
This incident comes months after another shocking attack involving an Indian soldier. In April, Vikrant Gurjar, a 27-year-old Army personnel from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district, was shot dead while on leave. Gurjar, who was posted in Jammu and Kashmir, had returned home to testify in a murder case when he was killed.
Both incidents have sparked concerns over the safety of defence personnel while travelling or on leave, highlighting the need for stronger protective measures in public spaces.
