Nizamabad (Telangana): In a shocking incident, a 42-year-old police constable was stabbed to death by an accused while being taken into custody in Nizamabad city on Sunday. The constable, identified as E. Pramod, was fatally attacked by Sheikh Riyaz, a suspect with a history of criminal cases.

Constable stabbed during escort to police station

According to the Nizamabad Police, the incident occurred near Vinayak Nagar Main Road under the limits of Nizamabad Town IV Police Station. The accused, Sheikh Riyaz, allegedly stabbed Constable Pramod in the chest from behind while being escorted to the police station.

Police officials said that Pramod was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by his colleague but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local police department and the community.

“Riyaz attacked Pramod suddenly while he was being brought to the police station. Despite immediate medical attention, the constable could not survive,” said a senior police officer.

Accused had attacked another man earlier in the day

Earlier the same day, Riyaz had allegedly attacked a man named Asif near Sarangapur, within the limits of Nizamabad Town 6 Police Station. Both Riyaz and Asif sustained injuries during the scuffle and were subsequently taken into custody by police officers present at the scene.

In an official statement, the Nizamabad Police said, “Today, under the Nizamabad Town 6 Police Station limits, near the Sarangpur area, the accused Riyaz attacked a person named Asif, and both the victim and the accused sustained injuries. The police caught them and shifted them to the hospital for further treatment.”

Following the initial attack, Riyaz was being transported to the police station for interrogation when he reportedly turned violent, fatally attacking Constable Pramod and escaping from the scene. Police later tracked him down and arrested him.

Accused linked to multiple criminal cases

Police sources revealed that Sheikh Riyaz, a resident of Nagaram, has a criminal background and has been linked to several previous cases of assault and theft. He was known to Constable Pramod, who had earlier arrested him in another case.

Authorities suspect Riyaz’s attack on Pramod may have been an act of revenge. “He harboured a grudge against Constable Pramod, who had arrested him in the past. We believe this was a deliberate act,” said a police investigator.

Police teams have intensified patrolling in the area, and additional forces have been deployed to prevent any law and order issues.

Separate case: Telangana police arrest home guard, RMP doctor in woman’s death

In another disturbing case in Telangana, police arrested a Home Guard and an RMP doctor for their alleged involvement in the rape and death of a 29-year-old woman, identified as Byagari Mounika, in Palamakula village under the limits of Cyberabad Commissionerate.

According to ACP V. Srikanth Goud, the main accused, Banuri Madhusudan (39), worked as a Home Guard with the Shamshabad Fingerprint Team. Police said he had been in a seven-year relationship with Mounika and had allegedly sexually assaulted her under the pretence of marriage.

When Mounika became pregnant, Madhusudan reportedly pressured her to undergo an abortion. He took her to Gaddamedi Padmaja, a 54-year-old RMP doctor who conducted the abortion procedure at her private clinic. After the procedure, Mounika experienced heavy bleeding and was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead.

The Telangana Police registered a case against both accused under sections related to rape, murder, and provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, following a complaint filed by the victim’s mother. Both suspects have been arrested and are currently under judicial custody.

Police condemn attacks on officers and women

Senior officials from the Telangana Police Department have condemned both incidents — the killing of Constable Pramod and the death of Mounika — as grave violations of law and humanity.

“These incidents underscore the dangers faced by police officers in the line of duty and highlight the urgent need for stronger measures to protect women’s safety,” a senior official said.

Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
