Kollam: In a shocking incident at Koothanadi near Punalur, a 39-year-old woman, Shalini, was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband, Isaac (42), on Monday morning. The crime took a disturbing turn when Isaac went live on Facebook, admitting to the murder and airing grievances about his wife.

Brutal attack

According to the FIR, the couple had longstanding marital issues. Police reported that at around 6:30 am, Shalini went near the pipeline behind the kitchen to take a bath when Isaac attacked her with a knife. The victim sustained deep injuries to her neck, chest, and back, leaving her dead at the scene.

Following the attack, Isaac livestreamed the murder on social media, claiming Shalini had been unfaithful, misappropriated jewellery, and defied his authority. He also alleged resentment toward her employment and political involvement.

Surrender and investigation

Isaac later surrendered at Punalur police station, informing authorities about the crime. Police immediately reached the house and confirmed Shalini’s death. Her body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, based on a complaint lodged by the couple’s 19-year-old son.

Family background

The couple had two sons. Isaac, a Gulf returnee, worked as a rubber tapper, while Shalini was employed as a helper at a local school. Police noted that Shalini had started living with Isaac’s mother due to regular assaults but had recently returned to the marital home.

Officials said the murder occurred as Shalini was preparing to leave for work.

Forensic and digital investigation

A forensic team is examining the crime scene. Both the victim’s and accused’s mobile phones have been seized as part of the ongoing investigation. Police continue to probe the circumstances leading to the attack, including marital disputes and the sequence of events surrounding the Facebook Live broadcast.
