Silchar : A tragic incident unfolded in Assam‘s Chirang district as a 31-year-old woman lost her life after being trampled by a herd of wild elephants. Forest officials reported that the event occurred in the Panbari area during the morning hours while the woman, identified as Jonali Kalita, was gathering wood in the nearby forest.
Accompanied by her husband, Kalita ventured into the periphery of the Manas National Park, unaware of the presence of the elephant herd. Unfortunately, they stumbled upon the elephants, leading to a fatal encounter. While her husband managed to evade the danger, Kalita was not as fortunate and succumbed to injuries inflicted by the elephants.
Forest guards swiftly responded to the scene, discovering Kalita’s lifeless body. Police also arrived and took control of the situation, transporting the body to the district government hospital for post-mortem examination. Subsequently, the remains were handed over to Kalita’s grieving family members, marking a devastating conclusion to the day’s events.
