DINDIGUL: In a swift breakthrough, four individuals — including a 17-year-old — were arrested on Monday for allegedly looting ₹29 lakh from an ATM cash handler at knifepoint near Sempatti in Dindigul district. The robbery occurred last Friday, targeting a man from Theni who was on duty transporting money for private ATM refilling.
The victim, identified as 30-year-old Nagarjun of Devadanapatti in Theni, was employed with a private firm managing ATM cash logistics. On June 13, while heading towards Chinnalapatti on a two-wheeler with the cash, he was ambushed near a TASMAC shop along the Pudukodangipatti–Ambathurai stretch by a trio.
The assailants brandished knives, threatened him, snatched the money, and fled the scene.
Acting on his complaint, police formed a special investigative team which scrutinised surveillance camera footage from the area. This led to the identification of the vehicle used during the crime.
The arrested suspects have been named as B Surendar (25), A Mohammad Idris (20), Prithiv (19), and a 17-year-old — all residents of Devadanapatti. Police are continuing inquiries to determine if additional accomplices were involved and whether the group has ties to other robberies of a similar nature.
Authorities have commended the swift action of the team and cautioned ATM handlers to remain vigilant during cash movement.
