KALABURAGI: Gulbarga University has raised serious concerns over possible tampering and irregularities in the evaluation of B.Ed examination answer scripts from December 2024. In a significant move, the university has formally approached the Department of Higher Education seeking permission to initiate a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe.

The decision was taken during a recent syndicate meeting, after Vice-Chancellor and officials flagged suspicious patterns — including students receiving identical marks in multiple subjects and drastic score increases post re-evaluation. These discrepancies triggered suspicions of systemic flaws or deliberate manipulation.

A total of 6,566 B.Ed students had appeared for the exam, including 2,427 in the 2nd semester and 4,139 in the 4th semester.

Apart from urging a CID inquiry, the university has proposed a complete re-evaluation of all answer papers. To ensure impartiality, syndicate members have recommended appointing custodians and assistant custodians from government and aided institutions, and engaging evaluators from neighbouring district universities.

University Registrar Ramesh Londonkar confirmed to The Hindu that a formal letter has been sent to the Principal Secretary of Higher Education. “We’ve requested a detailed CID investigation into the suspected scam and proposed a high-level internal inquiry to fix systemic issues in the evaluation process,” he stated.

This proactive move aims to restore academic integrity and prevent such breaches in the future.
