Jaspur: A minor disagreement during a badminton game turned tragic in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district after an 11-year-old boy allegedly stabbed his 12-year-old playmate during a quarrel.
The incident occurred in Purvi Chhipiyan colony in Jaspur, leaving Class VII student Mohammad Ehsan dead after he was allegedly attacked following an argument over a shuttlecock.
It started with a splash
Ehsan, the son of Tasleem Ahmed, was playing badminton near his home when the shuttlecock fell into a drain.
After retrieving it, he reportedly threw it towards his 11-year-old playmate. Dirty water splashed onto the younger boy’s clothes, leading to an argument between the two children.
According to police, the younger boy first struck Ehsan with a badminton racket before allegedly taking out a knife from his pocket and stabbing him in the chest.
The boy tried to get help
Despite suffering the serious injury, Ehsan managed to walk to a nearby medical store, where his wound was bandaged.
His mother noticed blood from an upper-floor window and sent his elder brother to check on him. However, Ehsan soon collapsed and became unconscious.
His family rushed him to a private hospital, but doctors referred him to a higher medical facility in Kashipur because of the seriousness of his injuries. He was declared dead on arrival.
Police begin search for the family
Following the incident, the 11-year-old suspect and his family reportedly left their residence.
Police said the boy’s father had died several years ago and that the child had been living with his mother at his uncle’s house. He was also reportedly not attending school.
Circle Officer Prashant Kumar said Ehsan’s body had been sent for post-mortem examination and that an investigation was underway.
The incident has left the local community shaken, with a routine game between children ending in an irreversible tragedy.
