A 20-year-old college student from Bengaluru’s Central Business District (CBD) was left devastated after discovering her private videos had been leaked online and shared across adult websites and social media platforms.
The victim, Clara (name changed), had shared the videos with a friend named Anoop (also alias), a native of Kochi, via a messaging app on August 18, 2023. On April 26, she approached the Central CEN Crime Police and requested help in removing the content, which had since spread widely online. Though initially handled as a petition, the case escalated when the videos resurfaced in June and again recently, appearing on 23 websites, causing severe emotional trauma.
Clara alleged that she had only sent the videos to Anoop, who now resides in Cambridge, UK. Upon confronting him, Anoop denied any involvement or knowledge of the leak.
The situation worsened when she received a blackmail threat from an Instagram user named Rony Ronel (handle: @irritattor). He demanded ₹5,000, claiming he could remove the videos, and shared a payment number (linked to Rony Tom Scaria). After Clara refused to comply, he threatened to further distribute the content.
She submitted all 23 website links to the authorities. A senior officer confirmed that actions are underway to have the videos removed.
A case has been officially registered against Anoop and the Instagram handler under Section 67A of the IT Act and Section 308 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for publishing explicit content and extortion.
