Chennai: Months after speculations arose about an electoral alliance between All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Union Minister Piyush Goyal held a meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam late on Thursday, February 14 night, which concluded with a 25-15 formula to share the 40 Lok Sabha seats including one seat of Puducherry.
However, an official announcement has not been made. Reportedly, the announcement will be made in Chennai in the presence of top BJP leaders and the AIADMK members.
Some of the regional parties including Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Vijayakanth’s Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) and G K Vasan led Tamil Maanila Congress are likely to be part of the alliance.
The BJP’s plans to arrange meetings by top leaders of the party with the AIADMK cadre, industry groups and social groups had to be rescheduled, due to the terrorist attack in Pulwama on Thursday.
According to some sources, an announcement of the alliance is due for Tuesday, as it is expected that the party leaders of both BJP and AIADMK might share the stage during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Kanyakumari on March 1.
