BJP tweets ‘truth’ about fuel price hike, gets trolled

New Delhi: Facing continuous condemnation from the opposition parties and the general public over the ever-rising price of fuel, the BJP took to Twitter as an outlet to reveal the “truth” about the hike in fuel prices since 2004.

In an attempt to show that the rise in fuel prices during the 8-year UPA rule was steeper, the tweet showed two graphs comparing the total percentage increase under the both the regimes. Apparently, what the BJP wanted to show was the differences between the percentage of increase of fuel prices during the UPA rule and the NDA rule.

The graph depicting petrol prices shows a 20.5% jump in prices during the UPA rule between 2004 and 2009 after which there was a sharp increase in prices by 75.8% over the next four years till 2014. This, they tried to contrast with the percentage rise in fuel prices under the NDA rule, which was just 13%. The same goes for the diesel prise rise graph. However, the mistake in the graphs depicting the differences has softened the blow that the tweet was intended to dole out to the Congress party.

Scores of netizens have now turned the blooper tweet into a meme, with everyone from comedians to the Congress party itself, poking fun at the glaring error, the latter even tweeting out a ‘fixed’ version of the BJP’s tweet.
