Mangaluru: The members of District Congress Committee (DCC) organised a protest rally in the city on Tuesday, September 11, against Rafale Fighter Aircraft Scam, allegedly by the Narendra Modi-led union government.
The protest rally was taken out from Ambedkar Circle to DC’s office where a huge protest meeting was held. Addressing the protesters, former minister B Ramanath Rai said, “As the Indian Airforce needs over 200 fighter aircraft, the then UPA government had planned to purchase 126 Rafale fighter aircraft.
Meanwhile, it had planned to purchase 18 jet aircraft through HAL of Bengaluru. The cost of the jet aircraft was Rs 524 Crore.
However, when Narendra Modi assumed power as the prime minister of the country, he made an agreement with France in the year 2015 to purchase 126 Rafale jet aircraft. Though the cost of the aircraft was only Rs 524 Crore per unit, Modi government decided to purchase aircraft for Rs 1,670 Crore per unit, without getting approval from the cabinet.” He suspected a massive corruption in the purchase of Rafale fighter aircraft.
Meanwhile, MLC Hareesh Kumar, former MLAs Moideen Bava and J R Lobo also addressed the protesters and condemned the move of the union government.
Mayor Bhaskar Moily, Deputy Mayor Mohammed Kunjathbail, Congress Publicity Committee President Dhananjay Adpangaya and other leaders like Kavitha Sanil, Shashidhar Hegde, P V Mohan, Kodijal Ibrahim, Shahul Hameed, Shalet Pinto, Mamatha Gatti, Suresh Ballal and Naveen D’Souza among others were present.
