A disturbing series of possible serial murders is unfolding in Alappuzha, Kerala, where 68-year-old Sebastian C.M. has been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman named Jainamma—and is now under investigation for three more disappearances dating back nearly two decades.

Police launched the probe after Jainamma’s husband, Appachan, filed a missing person report. A search of Sebastian’s home in Pallippuram near Cherthala uncovered 20 charred bone fragments, teeth, blood stains, and personal items like women’s clothing and a handbag. These have been sent for DNA analysis.

Investigators suspect that Sebastian may have preyed on socially isolated women. Crime branch teams from Alappuzha and Kottayam are now looking into the disappearances of Bindu Padmanabhan, missing since 2006, and Ayesha, who vanished in 2012.

A long-standing action council seeking justice for Bindu has renewed its call for a Special Investigation Team (SIT), citing the pattern of disappearances and urging police to probe possible accomplices.

The case has sent shockwaves across Kerala, with fears that more victims may come to light as the investigation progresses.
