Tension erupted at Basudevpur Community Health Centre in Odisha’s Bhadrak district after a 15-year-old boy allegedly died shortly after being administered an injection.
The incident triggered angry protests by family members and local residents, who accused hospital staff of medical negligence.
Injured while playing
The deceased boy, identified as Rocky, was the son of Debakant Barik from Melakasahi at Padmapur under Basudevpur block.
According to reports, Rocky suffered an ankle injury after a bamboo splinter pierced his leg while he was playing earlier in the day.
His family rushed him to the Basudevpur Community Health Centre for treatment.
Boy dies after treatment
At the hospital, medical staff reportedly cleaned and dressed the wound before giving him an injection.
However, family members alleged that soon after receiving the injection, the boy collapsed and died.
The sudden death caused panic and grief among relatives.
Protesters block road
Enraged locals gathered at the hospital premises and allegedly damaged property inside the health centre.
They later placed the boy’s body on the Basudevpur-Jamujhadi road and staged a blockade, demanding strict action against the medical staff and compensation for the bereaved family.
Vehicular movement on the route was badly affected, with many vehicles stranded on both sides.
Police step in
Police personnel from Basudevpur police station rushed to the scene and held talks with the protesters.
Officials assured the crowd that a proper investigation would be conducted into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Probe awaited
Authorities are expected to examine medical records and determine whether negligence played any role in the tragedy.
