Authorities said here on Monday that a 24-year-old man has been taken into custody by police after he and his father are suspected of killing the 18-year-old boyfriend of his sister in the Navi Mumbai township of Maharashtra.
The victim, a Devichapada resident in Panvel, was called to the accused’s sister’s home in the same neighborhood on Sunday afternoon, which is when the incident happened.
Later, the accused knocked on the door at home, but his sister did not answer. According to a Taloja police station official, he then forcibly opened the door and discovered his sister and her boyfriend inside the residence.
The accused then called his father and both of them allegedly attacked the victim with a sickle and a spade and killed him, he said.
After being alerted, police rushed to the spot and sent the body to a government hospital for postmortem.
The police have detained the girl’s brother and registered a case against him and her 45-year-father under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention), the official said.
An investigation was on into the case.
