Panipat: In the tragic murder of Haryana folk singer, Harshita Dahiya, the police have uncovered that the singer’s brother in law was responsible.
The police said that this information came to light when they were interrogating her brother-in-law, Dinesh Karala. During the interrogation, he revealed that he and four of his accomplices plotted the murder in jail.
Harhita’s sister, Lata, claimed that she was married to Dinesh, but left him and came back to her parental home. She claimed that Dinesh raped Harshita in 2014, and their mother, Premo Devi registered a case at the Kanjhavala police station in Delhi, against her son-in-law.
Premo Devi was later shot dead near her house in Narela, and a case was registered against Dinesh in Narela based on Harshita’s statement.
Harshita was the main witness to both the crimes and was under continuous pressure from her brother-in-law, not to make a statement beofre the court regarding the rape and the murder.
Harshita was shot in the head and neck multiple times and died on the spot on Tuesday, in Chamrara village when she was on the way to Delhi after a show. A few hours before her death, the 22 year old had gone live on Facebook claiming that she was receiving death threats but she said that she was not afraid.
Unfortunately, the police were not informed of the death threats.
Dinesh Karala has 12 criminal cases against him across various police stations including Delhi.
