Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday the state government was committed to the welfare of policemen and their families.

“The government has announced interim relief for policemen and also reduced the delay in police recruitment,’’ Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said while speaking at the Police Commemoration Day celebrations at KSRP grounds, Koramangala in Bengaluru.

Appreciating police for discharging their duties in difficult times, the chief minister has emphasized the need for maintaining law and order effectively to ensure development of the state.

“The government is committed to the welfare of policemen and their families as cops are constantly on duty, before and after untoward incidents. In the last two years, the government has redressed pay disparity grievance of the policemen, besides providing housing facilities to them apart from facilitating education to the children of policemen. The government has provided canteen facility and promoted a large number of lower rung staff,” he said.

The chief minister said that a permanent venue would be allotted to organise the police commemoration day celebrations from next year.

“The government has also decided to construct a stadium for sporting activities for the policemen,” he said.

He paid homage to 370 policemen and soldiers who laid down their lives while on duty.

“As many as 12 policemen from the state had sacrificed their lives while serving in the state. I condole the deaths of policemen and pray God to give strength to those families to bear the loss,’’ the chief minister said.

He stressed the need to use latest technology for prevention and detection of crimes.

“The trend of using latest technology to commit crimes is on the rise. It will be difficult to prevent such crimes if the policemen fail to use technology. Cops should concentrate on tackling organised crimes and bust rackets,” he said. The chief minister requested the media to cooperate with the investigating agencies.

“Media wants to report instant developments, follow-ups and alerts. The police refuse to share investigation details as it affects the probe. Media persons should understand this difficulty and cooperate with the police,” he said.

Police building

The chief minister has expressed disappointment over the delay in completing the construction of Police Building (Community Hall) at KSRP ground. He questioned on the delay in completing the work that was began in 2008. He directed Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Bhaskar Rao to complete the construction work.

“It will benefit 2,500 policemen and their families,’’ he said.

Later, he inaugurated a canteen at the third battalion of the KSRP at Koramangala. Earlier, he laid the foundation stone for the construction of housing complex for police at Adugodi.

Home Minster R Ramalinga Reddy, DG&IGP RK Dutta, ADGP (KSRP) Bhaskar Rao and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
