In a swift and reassuring response, Calangute Police successfully rescued a stolen pet dog from Khobra Vaddo near Casa Goana Restaurant, reuniting the animal with its relieved owner within hours of the incident.
Theft caught on CCTV
The incident unfolded on Friday afternoon at around 1.36 pm. A two-year-old female Lhasa Apso, white in colour, was sitting quietly on the footpath outside her residence when an unidentified man approached from the Calangute side towards Baga.
CCTV footage clearly captured the man interacting with the dog. He was seen playing with her, feeding her something, and then casually lifting her before walking away towards Calangute road. The act, carried out in broad daylight, left the owner shocked and distressed.
Police act swiftly on complaint
The owner immediately lodged a complaint with Calangute Police, submitting the CCTV visuals as evidence. Taking the matter seriously, officers reviewed the footage and launched a focused investigation without delay.
Using a combination of technical inputs and local intelligence, the police team traced the suspect’s movements and quickly identified the accused. He was apprehended soon after, and the stolen dog was recovered unharmed.
Owner relieved as pet returns safely
The pet owner had appealed to the public for assistance in locating the dog, but the police action proved swift enough to make wider appeals unnecessary. The dog was safely returned, bringing immense relief to the family.
Police officials said the case highlights the importance of CCTV surveillance and prompt reporting, especially in residential areas. They also reiterated their commitment to acting decisively in cases involving pet theft and public distress.
Growing concern over pet safety
Incidents involving stolen pets have raised concerns among residents in tourist-heavy areas such as Calangute. Police have advised pet owners to remain vigilant, ensure pets are supervised, and report suspicious activity immediately.
For the relieved owner, however, the episode ended on a positive note—thanks to timely police intervention and coordinated investigation.
