New Delhi: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha was apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at Tihar Jail regarding a suspected money-laundering matter associated with the liquor policy in Delhi. This development follows recent interrogations by the investigative agency while she remained in judicial custody.

K Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, stands accused of involvement in the “South Group,” alleged to have provided kickbacks of ₹ 100 crore to the ruling AAP in Delhi. In exchange, they purportedly sought a considerable portion of liquor licenses in the national capital. She was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days last Tuesday.

Her initial arrest occurred on March 15 by the Enforcement Directorate from her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.

CBI officials, having secured authorization from a special court, recently conducted inquiries with Kavitha within the prison premises. These inquiries pertained to WhatsApp communications retrieved from co-accused Buchi Babu’s device and documents concerning a land transaction. Allegedly, ₹ 100 crore was funneled to the AAP in kickbacks to influence the excise policy favoring a particular liquor lobby in Delhi.

The CBI personnel visited Tihar Jail on Saturday to further investigate Kavitha regarding these aspects of the case.
