Investigators have obtained CCTV footage showing the suspect and the car involved in the deadly explosion near Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk area, which killed at least nine people and injured several others on Monday evening.

The blast occurred around 7:00 pm, when a car stopped briefly at a traffic signal before exploding. The powerful blast ripped through the crowded area, setting nearby vehicles ablaze and injuring passersby.

CCTV footage under analysis

Security sources confirmed that multiple CCTV cameras from around the Red Fort Metro and adjoining Chandni Chowk lanes captured visuals of a suspicious vehicle moments before the explosion. The footage reportedly shows a man exiting the car briefly before the blast.

A senior Delhi Police officer said, “The visuals are being analysed frame by frame. We have shared the footage with national agencies for facial recognition and vehicle tracing.”

Investigation intensifies

Teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Delhi Police Special Cell, and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) are jointly investigating the explosion. The car’s chassis number and registration details are being examined to determine ownership and possible links to any terror network.

Officials have not ruled out foul play. “All possibilities are being explored — from accidental ignition to deliberate detonation,” said Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora.

Red Fort closed; security alert across Delhi

The Red Fort has been temporarily closed to visitors for three days as a precautionary measure. Security has been heightened at key landmarks, metro stations, and public gatherings across the national capital.

A high-level review meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday morning directed agencies to intensify intelligence coordination and submit a detailed report within 48 hours.

Victims identified

Of the nine people killed, authorities have identified seven so far, including a taxi driver, two local traders, and a college student. Several of the injured remain in critical condition at Lok Nayak Hospital and RML Hospital.

The Delhi government has announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.

Public urged to stay alert

Police have appealed to citizens to avoid spreading rumours and share any footage or eyewitness accounts from the area to aid the investigation.

The Red Fort blast — one of the most serious security incidents in the capital in recent years — has raised concerns over vulnerabilities in crowded heritage and market zones.
