A blast occurred in a car near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening, leaving nine people dead and 20 others injured, officials confirmed. The explosion took place around 6:50 pm near the Red Fort Metro Station, a busy area in Old Delhi. The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals, and helpline numbers have been issued for families seeking information.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause of the explosion. Senior officials from the Delhi Police, National Security Guard (NSG), and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have reached the site. Teams are analysing CCTV footage and collecting forensic samples from the area.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives and said that all possible assistance is being provided to the injured and their families.
“The top agencies are investigating with full intensity, and every possible angle is being examined,” Shah said.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the incident and wished the injured a speedy recovery. The Prime Minister reviewed the situation with the Home Minister and senior officials.

Security measures have been strengthened across Delhi and neighbouring states as a precaution. Additional checks are being carried out at major transport hubs, public places, and religious sites.
