A disturbing CCTV video showing a group of men brutally assaulting two individuals in Selakui area of Dehradun has gone viral on social media, triggering fear among local residents and swift police intervention. Following the circulation of the footage, police arrested five youths in connection with the incident.

Assault captured on camera

The video, reportedly recorded by a nearby CCTV camera, shows several men attacking two individuals in full public view. The assailants are seen using stick-like, sharp-edged weapons while a few bystanders remain present at the scene. Parked vehicles along the roadside are also visible as the violence unfolds, with no immediate police presence during the assault.

Incident linked to clash between two groups

According to police sources, the incident involved two groups and escalated into a violent confrontation on the streets of Selakui. While the initial altercation that led to the assault is not visible in the footage, the clip shows the attackers fleeing the spot within minutes after beating the victims.

Complaint filed, police act swiftly

One of the victims, Neeraj Adhikari, a resident of Kashipur, lodged a formal complaint stating that he and his friend were subjected to a life-threatening assault. Acting on the complaint and the viral video, senior officials of the Uttarakhand Police ordered immediate action.

Cases have been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Selakui police station. A search operation was launched to identify and trace the accused.

Five students arrested

Police confirmed the arrest of five accused, all aged between 18 and 21 years. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ayush Pal and Archit Rai from Varanasi, Tubhyam Jain from Indore, Vatsalya Jha from Gurugram, and a local resident Kabir Raj Singh. All are students of a private educational institution, which has been informed about the arrests.

Investigation continues

Preliminary inquiry suggests the assault stemmed from a minor scuffle, though detailed reasons are still under investigation. Police said further action will follow based on the findings, assuring strict action against public violence.
