New Delhi: The central government has sanctioned ₹153.20 crore to Kerala as part of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to address the devastating impact of the Mundakkai and Chooralmala landslides in Wayanad. This funding marks the initial central share of assistance for the rain-triggered disasters.
The state is expecting further financial aid as it begins utilizing the sanctioned amount. Kerala has also urged the Centre to provide a special assistance package, highlighting the scale of the Wayanad tragedy as among the worst natural disasters in its history.
However, the central government has yet to act on Kerala’s plea for a waiver of bank loans for the disaster-affected families in Wayanad.
