New Delhi: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) Council has recently made a significant resolution to increase the frequency of Chartered Accountancy (CA) exams starting from the year 2024. This resolution was disclosed during the 430th meeting of the ICAI convened on March 7, 2024, in New Delhi.

According to the decision, the council has opted to administer the exams three times annually, scheduled for January, May/June, and September respectively. Previously, these examinations were exclusively conducted in May/June and January. Notably, this triannual examination schedule will be applicable to both Intermediate and Foundation courses.

In an official statement issued by ICAI, it was stated, “In order to provide enhanced support to students, Intermediate and Foundation course examinations will be held three times a year, specifically in January, May/June, and September. Previously, both examinations were conducted biannually. Globally, examinations are conducted more frequently to offer students increased opportunities for participation. In line with this, ICAI has embraced international best practices.”

This change aims to afford students more chances to sit for the examinations. Additionally, the interval between exams has been reduced from six months to four months.

The official communication from ICAI highlighted the benefits of this decision, particularly for students who have completed their study period and wish to appear in the exam without enduring a two-month waiting period.

For the upcoming May/June 2024 examination session, approximately 436,500 students have already enrolled.
