A senior official of a nationalised bank, aged in his late 40s, was found dead by suicide inside the bank premises in Baramati, Pune district, late on Thursday night. According to Baramati police, the chief manager had recently resigned on July 11, citing health problems and job-related stress, and was serving his notice period.
On the night of the incident, the manager asked all staff to leave after banking hours, stating he would close the branch himself. He also requested a rope from a colleague earlier in the day. After the security guard left around 9:30 PM, he took his own life using the rope, an act captured on the bank’s CCTV.
His wife, concerned when he didn’t return home and couldn’t be reached by phone, rushed to the bank and found the lights still on. She informed bank staff, who forced open the door and found him hanging.
A suicide note found at the scene cited extreme work-related stress but did not accuse any individuals. Police confirmed he was under medical care. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
