A Class 12 student was arrested for allegedly slapping a woman invigilator after being questioned for arriving late to a preliminary examination at a school in Gujarat’s Panchmahal district. The incident, which occurred on January 24, sparked widespread outrage after CCTV footage went viral.

Late arrival led to classroom assault

According to police, the accused, Mohammed Khan Ansari (18), arrived late for the second preliminary examination at S.J. Dave High School in Shehra town. When the woman invigilator asked him to explain his delay, he allegedly reacted angrily and questioned her authority.

Police said the student slapped the teacher on her cheek, pushed her, and fled the classroom. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed on the school premises.

Threats allegedly issued days later

While the student’s father reportedly apologised to the teacher and the school authorities on the day of the incident, the matter escalated further a few days later. Police said that on January 27, the student returned to the school along with his father and a group of 15 to 20 people.

The accused allegedly threatened the teacher, pointing out that she lived alone in the town and warning her of harm. The student later claimed that he had returned only to apologise, a version disputed by the police.

FIR registered, accused released on bail

An FIR was registered on February 3 at the local police station. Panchmahal Police Inspector Ankur Chaudhary said the police reconstructed the sequence of events to understand how the incident unfolded.

The accused was arrested and produced before a court, which granted him bail on Friday. Amid public anger over the viral footage, police also recreated the incident as part of the investigation, officials clarified.

Investigation continues

School authorities and teachers’ associations have expressed concern over rising instances of aggression against educators. Police said further investigation is underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on evidence.
