New Delhi : Three people were killed and three others injured after a CNG cylinder fitted to a truck exploded while it was being refuelled at a filling station near Tikri Kalan Metro station in Delhi on Wednesday.

Blast during routine refuelling

The explosion occurred at around 3.20 pm while CNG was being filled into the truck. The blast caused panic in the area and damaged another truck, a van, a scooter and equipment at the filling station.

Police said six people were injured in the incident and were taken to hospitals. Three of them later died from their injuries. The deceased were identified as Manish, Sunny and Brahmjeet, all employees of the filling station. The injured included the truck driver and two others who were receiving treatment.

Cause of explosion under investigation

The precise cause of the blast has not yet been established. Investigators are examining the truck, its CNG cylinder, refuelling equipment, CCTV footage and other forensic evidence to determine what triggered the explosion.

Six fire tenders were sent to the site after the Delhi Fire Service received information about the incident. Police and emergency personnel also reached the filling station and carried out rescue operations.

Safety concerns come into focus

The incident has renewed attention on safety procedures at CNG filling stations and the need for prompt emergency response when accidents occur.

Families of victims have also raised concerns about the time taken to provide medical assistance after the explosion. Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances of the accident as the investigation progresses.
