Idukki: A festive moment turned tragic in Vandiperiyar on Saturday as a Congress party worker, Selvakumar (49), collapsed and died during celebrations following the party’s victory in the Karnataka Assembly elections.
A resident of Karuppupalam in Idukki, Selvakumar was actively participating in the local Congress committee’s victory event. According to reports, he felt uneasy while going to a shop to buy crackers and collapsed on the spot.
Fellow party members rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. The cause of death is suspected to be cardiac-related.
Selvakumar is survived by his wife Sundari, mother Pappathi, and children. His funeral was held at 2 pm on Sunday.
The local Congress unit paid heartfelt tributes, remembering him as a dedicated and cheerful worker whose sudden demise has left a void in the community.
